Best Time To Visit Mammoth Cave

Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) are ideal — mild temperatures, wildflowers or fall color, and clear flying weather. Summer is the busiest tourism season; book cave tours and helicopter flights well ahead.

We offer three flight lengths from our helipad in Cave City, Kentucky: a 5–6 minute Quick Thrill ($49), a 10–12 minute Green River tour ($99), and a 20–25 minute Grand Tour ($189) that circles the Mammoth Cave area and reaches Barren River Lake.

+Are helicopter rides safe?

Yes. Every flight is operated by FAA-certified pilots in a Robinson R44 — one of the most popular and trusted piston helicopters in the world. We follow strict pre-flight inspections and only fly in safe weather conditions. Flights are rescheduled at no charge if weather is unsafe.

+How far is Fly Mammoth Cave from the Mammoth Cave area?

Our helipad is in Cave City, Kentucky, just minutes from the the Mammoth Cave visitor center and right off I-65 (Exit 53). You can tour the caves in the morning and fly the same afternoon.

+Can children ride in the helicopter?

Absolutely. Our tours are family-friendly and kids of all ages are welcome. Everyone gets a noise-canceling headset and can talk to the pilot the entire flight. Children should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

+Do I need reservations?

Walk-ups are welcome at our Cave City helipad, but reservations are strongly recommended — especially on weekends, holidays, and during peak Mammoth Cave tourism season. Call (931) 548-5022 to lock in your preferred time slot.

+What happens if the weather is bad?

Safety always comes first. If weather conditions are not safe to fly — high winds, low visibility, or storms near the Mammoth Cave area — we'll reschedule your flight at no charge or issue a full refund.

+What is the passenger weight limit?

Our maximum passenger weight is 300 lbs per person. This is a Robinson R44 helicopter requirement for safe weight and balance during scenic flights around Cave City, Horse Cave, and the Mammoth Cave area.

+Where do flights depart from?

All Mammoth Cave helicopter rides depart from our helipad in Cave City, Kentucky — minutes from I-65 Exit 53, the Mammoth Cave area, Horse Cave, and Glasgow. Roughly 30 minutes from Bowling Green and 90 minutes from Nashville or Louisville.
