Bowling Green to Mammoth Cave: The Perfect Day Trip

June 22, 2025 · Cave City, Kentucky

Bowling Green, Kentucky sits just 30 minutes south of Mammoth Cave on I-65. It's the perfect launch point for a one-day Mammoth Cave adventure — with plenty to do on both ends of the drive.

Morning — Bowling Green Attractions Before You Drive

Lost River Cave

The only underground boat tour in Kentucky, right inside Bowling Green city limits. Quick, beautiful, and a great warm-up for the bigger caves up north.

National Corvette Museum

Even non-car-people love it. Two hours is plenty.

Midday — Drive North on I-65 to Cave City

30 minutes door-to-door from downtown Bowling Green to Cave City (Exit 53). Stop for lunch at a local Cave City BBQ joint or diner.

Afternoon — Mammoth Cave + A Helicopter Ride

Book the Historic Tour at the Mammoth Cave area in advance, then hop on a helicopter tour from our Cave City helipad. Caves in the morning, treetops in the afternoon — unbeatable combo. Tours from $49.

Evening — Sunset Drive Back

Take I-65 south back to Bowling Green. If you timed it right, catch sunset over the rolling Kentucky hills.
